Responsible for developing in-depth knowledge of a Ministry and its business environment— purpose, goals and objectives - as well as building, maintaining and managing its public image, reputation and goodwill, through the use of all forms of media and communication, including communicating key messages, often using third party endorsements, to defined target audiences in order to establish and maintain goodwill and understanding between an organization and its public.

1.      PLANS, advises on, and implements public relations policies and strategies in order to meet the needs and objectives of Ministry/ Department.

 

2.      PLANS, implements and coordinates the dissemination of information through research and the preparation of public information/public relations documents including press releases, public service announcements, advertisements, brochures, newsletters, articles, annual reports, facts, scripts, photos, videos, etc. with a view to keep the public informed about programmes, services and accomplishments of a Ministry/Department in a timely manner.

 

3.      PLANS and coordinates press conferences and special events relating to the functions of a Ministry/Department; and serves as the focal point in responding to negative and inaccurate statements regarding the Ministry/ Department and facilitates requests for information, clarification and comments from the public and/or news media.

 

4.      DEVELOPS and maintains effective working relationships with the news media through the sharing of information using a variety of techniques such as telephone calls, news conferences, interview, press releases or briefings etc.

5.      TAKES follow-up action on public relation issues directly assigned by the CEO, Heads of Departments and/or Supervisor.

 

6.      MAINTAINS and keeps up-to-date the official Website and Facebook Page of the Ministry by soliciting, reviewing and editing new content from the relevant Departments/Units.

 

7.      COLLATES important news clippings and other data and analyses media coverage that adversely impacts the image of a Ministry/ Department and plan follow-up actions to mitigate the situation.

 

8.      FOSTERS community relations between a Ministry and the general public through the hosting of events such as open days and tours.

Be in possession of a Bachelors degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Communication, Journalism or related field.

Minimum of three (3) years' experience in any "communications" orientated organization, in areas of journalism, advertising, marketing or fundraising. Must demonstrate good communication, writing, and analytical skills; time management skills and ability to network and work as part of a team; ability to multitask and maintain confidentiality, honesty and possess integrity.

Proficient knowledge and skills in the use of social media and other communication tools; Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills; Excellent organizational, scheduling and planning skills, Ability to manage different priorities and meet deadlines; Awareness of current affairs and a passion for finding out new information; Creativity and initiative; Must be self-confident and social – ability to network effectively; Team player; Attention to detail; Stamina, energy and drive; Ability to work under pressure; Achievement-orientated and results-driven.

The Conditions of service will be in accordance with the Belize Constitution (Public Service) Regulations, 2014, Financial and Store Orders, Finance and Audit (Reform) Act and any other instructions issued from time to time.
Government of Belize Payscale 14 of $28,637 x 1188 - $51,209 per annum
